Nora is our latest makeover recipient. We met her at the Women Seeking Employment seminar presented by the McKinney Chamber’s Women’s Alliance of McKinney. She was seeking a new professional look to help her find a management or marketing job. She is currently a substitute teacher in the
Riana, a resident at The Samaritan Inn,
Tonya Knott, founder and coordinator of the McKinney Makeover Network, met with her to determine her needs, which were haircut, makeup, interview clothing, updated resume, and dental work.
The next morning, Riana had an updated resume, several gently used designer suits donated by Brandi Grosvenor to choose from for her interview, and Mary Kay makeup donated by Elaine Coombers. She was prepared for her interview and she was hired a few days later.
Riana also received a complete makeover from Hair Options Salon. After the makeover, she had a photo shoot with Juan Carlos of Entertainment Photos. Dr. Sam Patel provided teeth cleaning, teeth bleaching, and extensive dental work to eliminate intense pain. ReMax Realtor Cheryl O’Hagan provided additional clothing. Riana is thrilled about her new look and all of the assistance we provided. She has called Tonya several times throughout the process to express her gratitude. Lynne Sipiora, executive director at the Samaritan Inn, and other employees at the facility said we helped change Riana’s life. That’s our goal. This would not have been possible without the kind, generous, and caring business owners and individuals who donated services and products to help Riana.
We gave Priscilla, a Samaritan Inn resident, with a different type of makeover. We created a resume for her, which helped her find employment. We also provided her with a gently used coat and a long distance phone card. We really surprised her and boosted her spirits when we gave her a sewing machine and about $500 worth of beautiful fabrics and patterns. She was thrilled and in tears because she is a seamstress and once owned her own upholstery shop. We will assist her by selling items she creates on our website. All proceeds will go to her to help her rebuild her life.
